VIN for Vehicle History
Planning to buy a truck? Know its history first. The VIN tells the build year and where it was made. It also shows the trim level and original parts.
Mismatches can mean engine swaps. This suggests the truck is not original. You can also use the VIN for DMV history searches. Records go back to when it was made.
Where to Find Your VIN
To use our International VIN search, find your truck's VIN. It is printed in a few places.
- Look at the dashboard through the windshield.
- Open the driver's door. Check the metal sticker on the door sill. It's near a barcode. Also check the rear driver's side door.
- Look on the floor near the front passenger seat. It might be on a plate near the door sill. Or under a carpet flap.
- On older rear-engine trucks, check the front storage. Look on the passenger side near the fuel tank. Or on the tank itself.
The VIN is on registration and insurance papers. Our license plate lookup can also find the VIN.
